Keeping a healthy smile is more than brushing regularly and flossing after meals; it’s about having a strong relationship with your dental team and correcting dental issues before they become problematic and costly. Seaside Dentistry looks forward to protecting your oral health with our comprehensive dental exams and cleanings.
The American Dental Association recommends that everyone see a hygienist at least once every six months for a prophylaxis (preventative) cleaning. If you are on a periodontal maintenance schedule due to a history of gum disease, you may need to see your hygienist once every three to four months.
If periodontal disease (gum disease) is detected, you may benefit from a therapeutic cleaning known as scaling and root planing (often referred to as deep cleaning). Your hygienist and dentist will conduct a thorough gum tissue exam and record all necessary information in your electronic chart, so that we can monitor your gum health and notify you of any important changes throughout the years. Gum health is so important as the presence of gum disease is correlated with an increased risk of stroke, diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and decreased life expectancy. Furthermore, healthy gum and bone tissue allow the corresponding teeth to stay healthy as well!
Comprehensive dental exams are thorough examinations not only of your teeth and gum tissue, but also your entire mouth, head and neck. We want our patients to stay educated and be informed of all aspects of their dental health.
Visiting your dentist regularly for exams and cleanings is your best defense against dental disease. Call us today to get started!
